The day after the footings are installed it is time to install the foundation. Work starts by once again finding the placement of the home on the site in relation to the property lines. Marks are made on the tops of the footings to locate the foundation walls.
The walls should be square and line up so the vertical rebar that was installed in the footings is in the center of the eight inch concrete walls. Block outs are used to provide openings for windows.
A concrete pump is used to get the concrete into the forms.
Bolts are placed to tie the wood framing to the foundation. Metal straps called seismic straps are used to tie the home to the foundation in case of and earth quake or high winds. The spacing of the bolts and the locations and size of the straps are determined by a structural engineer during the planning stage of building the home.
