Fall is officially here. Time to prepare your lawn for winter by doing some final fall lawn care. Remember theses simple steps to prepare your lawn for the cold winter months ahead and it will wake up healthier next spring.
What To Do With All The Leaves: You can either rake or mulch them. Mulching is a much better option because it fertilizes your lawn. What ever you do with the leaves, try to not leave them on the grass for too long, especially if it is wet. The leaves can form a mat that promotes bacteria growth and hurts the grass.
Cut Your Lawn: When the lawn stops growing you should cut it one last time 2 to 3 inches long.
Seeding: If you want an extra thick lawn in the spring you can over seed in the fall. the cooler temperatures in the fall and the extra moisture are perfect conditions for starting new grass seeds so in the spring they will wake back up growing strong.
Fertilizing: Finally you will want to fertilize the lawn. If you planted new seeds you need to make sure that your new seeds are growing strong before fertilizing. Use a high nitrogen fertilizer such as Scotts Wintergard.
