Gable End Shed Style
The most traditional shed design is the gable end shed. It is recognized by a double pitched roof and a single ridge down the center. Each of the pitches is the same. The two ends of the shed end up having a “gable end”. The pitch can vary from an almost flat 1 in 12 to a very steep 12 in 12 or steeper. The pitch of the roof is varied for the following reasons:
- Cost of Construction: A lower pitched gable roof is less expensive to build because it is easier to work on and also requires less material to build it.
- Design: Changing the pitch of the roof is one of the easiest ways to change the look of your back yard storage shed. It is common to match the roof pitch of the home it is being built next to.
- Weather: Steeper roofs help remove water and snow more quickly.
- Building Requirements: Local building requirements often have a height restriction. Having a lower pitched roof helps keep the height of the shed down.
