Our neighbors are re-roofing their house. I thought it would be fun to follow along. The first step in installing a new roof is to remove the old roof. You will need a dumpster to throw away all the old shingles. Dumpsters can be easily rented and dropped off in your driveway. For most roofs you will need a large dumpster, this is a 40 yard roll off dumpster.
The next thing to do is a lot of work. All the old shingles need to be removed and the old nails need to be pulled out of the roof to create a clean surface for the new shingles. The tool that helps to take off the old shingles looks like a shovel with teeth on the front and a metal triangle lever point at the top of the blade to help lift nails easily. These guys are leaving the old building paper on to protect the house until they can add the new building paper.
