Materials List: The 3 horse barn plans come with a complete materials list.
Foundation:The run in shed has two foundation options with the downloadable plans: Direct bury posts or Concrete pier.
Floor: The floor for horse run in sheds is typically left as existing dirt or a poured concrete slab. The tack room floor is 5/4" tongue and groove boards.
Walls Framing: 4x4 posts are used in the walls and 6x6 posts are used on the breezeway. 2x4 fir girt boards hold the siding and interior 1x8 oak kick panels.
Wall Height: The rear shed wall height is 8'-0", the front lean to wall is just over 8'-9'. Center wall is 12'-.
Window: There are no windows on the plans but windows can be added on any wall.
Siding: 4x8 rough sawn plywood with 1x2 battens at 12" on center.
Roof: The roof is framed using 2x8's to build the rafters. It is sheeted with 7/16" O.S.B. for strength and can have asphalt shingles or metal roofing installed. The plans give you a template and dimensions for the birdsmouth cut angles on the rafters.
Roof Pitch: 4/12, this means that for every 4 inches of rise there is 12 inches of run horizontally.
Roof Overhang: 6" on the front and 6" on the back. 2" on the sides.
Roofing: Asphalt shingles or Corrugated metal roofing.
Trim: 1x4 wood or cement boards are used to finish the corners, roof eves are left open, fascia is 2x8 boards.
Engineering: Design loads are "typical". It is recommended that you have local structural engineer review the plans and make any necessary modifications for local soil, wind, snow and seismic conditions.
